MULTIPLES OF 2 WITH EXAMPLES AND FAQ
MULTIPLES OF 2
Any number that can be expressed in the form of 2p where p is an integer or a natural number, is a multiple of 2. For example, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 are some multiples of 2.
Definition of multiple
For example, 20 is a multiple of 2 as 20 = 2 × 10.
Here, 20 is also a multiple of 10.
Note: Here b is multiple of a, whereas n and a are factors of b. With respect to the above example
2 and 10 are factors of 20.
TABLE OF 2
Multiplication of 2 with other numbers |
2 × 1 = 2 |
2 × 2 = 4 |
2 × 3 = 6 |
2 × 4 = 8 |
2 × 5 = 10 |
2 × 6 = 12 |
2 × 7 = 14 |
2 × 8 = 16 |
2 × 9 = 18 |
2 × 10 = 20 |
2 × 11 = 22 |
2 × 12 = 24 |
Hence, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12…. and so on are the multiples.
Some useful identities of multiples of are:
- The first multiple of all numbers is the number itself, hence every number is a multiple of itself. For example, 2 x 1 = 22 is a multiple of itself.
- The multiples of a number is an infinite chain.
- the multiple of any number is either greater than or equal to the number itself.
For example,2 x 1 = 2 (2 = 2)
2 x 2 = 4 (4 > 2)
- Multiples of an even number are always even because the product of any number with an even number gives another even number.
EXAMPLES
Example 1: How many multiples of 2 are there in between 0 to 15?
Solution: We know the multiples of 2 are 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16,…
Hence the multiples between 0 to 15 are 2, 4, 6, 8,10, 12 and 14. Therefore, the number of multiples present between 0 and 15 are 7.
Example 2: Add the 12th multiple of 2 to its 20th multiple.
Solution: The 12th multiple is 12 × 2 = 24
The 20th multiple is 20 × 2 = 40
Therefore, ( 12th multiple ) + ( 20th multiple ) = 24 + 40 = 64
Example 3: Fill in the series 24, 26, 28, __, 32, 34, __, 38, 40.
Solution: We notice that the given series is of multiples of 2.
Hence the complete series is 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do you find the multiples of 2?
When we multiply any number with 2, we get a multiple of 2. For example, multiplication of 2 by 12 gives 24, where 24 is a multiple of 2.
2. What are the factors and multiples of 2?
2 is a prime number so its factors are only 1 and 2.
2, 4, 6, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 … and so on are the multiples of 2.
3. Are 2’s multiples always even?
Yes, since the multiplication of any number with even numbers results in an even number. 2 is an even number so its multiples are also even.
