MULTIPLES OF 6 WITH EXAMPLES AND FAQ
MULTIPLES OF 6
Any number that can be expressed in the form of 6p where p is an integer or a natural number, is a multiple of 6. For example, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 are some multiples of 6.
Definition of multiple
For example, 42 is a multiple of 6 as 42 = 6 × 7.
Here, 42 is also a multiple of 7.
Note: Here b is multiple of a, whereas n and a are factors of b. With respect to the above example
6 and 7 are factors of 42.
TABLE OF 6

Multiplication of 6 with other numbers |
|
6×1 = 6 |
|
6×2 = 12 |
|
6×3 = 18 |
|
6×4 = 24 |
|
6×5 = 30 |
|
6×6 = 36 |
|
6×7 = 42 |
|
6×8 = 48 |
|
6×9 = 54 |
|
6×10 = 60 |
|
6×11 = 66 |
|
6×12 = 72 |
Hence,6,12,18, 24, 30, 36… and so on are the multiples.
Some useful identities of multiples are:
- The first multiple of all numbers is the number itself, hence every number is a multiple of itself. For example, 6×1 = 66 is a multiple of itself. It is also the smallest multiple.
- The multiples of a number is an infinite chain.
- the multiple of a number is either greater than or equal to the number itself.
For example, 6×1 = 6(6 = 6)
6×2 = 12(12 > 6)
- Multiples of an even number are always even because the product of any number with an even number gives another even number.
EXAMPLES
Example 1: Calculate the sum of the 5th and 7th multiples of 6.
Solution: The 5th multiple is 5×6 = 30
The 7th multiple is 7×6 = 42
∴30 + 42 = 72 is the sum of 6’s 5th and 7th multiples.
Example 2: Ritika decides to fill a box of chocolates such that each box contains only 6 of them. How many chocolates should she purchase to fill 25 such boxes?
Solution: Given that in one box 6 chocolates fit in.
∴to fill n number of boxes, she needs (n × 6) chocolates.
Here she has 25 boxes hence Ritika needs 25 × 6 = 150 chocolates.
Example 3: Rohan is playing a game in which for every 6 levels crossed he will be rewarded with a bonus. If Rohan has received 5 bonuses in one day, then how many levels did he complete?
Solution: Given that for every 6 levels a bonus is rewarded and Rohan has received 5 such bonuses.
Hence Rohan cleared 5 x 6 = 30 levels on that day.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do you find the multiples of 6?
To find the multiples, multiply any number by 6. For example, multiplication of 6 by 12 gives 72, where 72 is the 12th multiple of 6.
2. What are the factors and multiples of 6?
6 = 3×2×1, hence the factors of 6 are 1, 2 and 3.
6,12,18,24,30,36,42,48,54,……and so on are all multiples of 6.
3. Are 6’s multiples always even?
Yes, since the multiplication of any number with even numbers results in an even number. 6 is an even number so its multiples are also even.
4. Are all multiples of 3, 6’s multiple also?
No, not all multiples of 3 are 6’s multiples. For example, 15 is a multiple of 3 but not of 6.
Similarly, not all multiples of 2 and 6 are common. For example, 8 is a multiple of 2 but not of 6.
But, every number that is divisible by 2 and 3 is a multiple of 6.
