MULTIPLES OF 12 WITH EXAMPLES AND FAQ
MULTIPLES OF 12
Any number that can be expressed in the form of 12q where q is an integer or a natural number, is a multiple of 12. For example, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72 and 84 are some multiples of 12.
Definition of multiple
For example, 48 is a multiple of 12 as 48 = 12 × 4.
Here, 48 is also a multiple of 4.
Note: Here b is multiple of a, whereas n and a are factors of b. With respect to the above example
4 and 12 are factors of 48.
Table of 12
Multiplication of 12 with other numbers |
12 × 1 = 12 |
12 × 2 = 24 |
12 × 3 = 36 |
12 × 4 = 48 |
12 × 5 = 60 |
12 × 6 = 72 |
12 × 7 = 84 |
12 × 8 = 96 |
12 × 9 = 108 |
12 × 10 = 120 |
12 × 11 = 132 |
12 × 12 = 144 |
Hence,12, 24, 36, 48, 60, …. and so on are 12’s multiples.
Some useful identities of multiples are:
- The first multiple of all numbers is the number itself, hence every number is a multiple of itself. For example, 12×1=1212 is a multiple of itself.
- The multiples of a number is an infinite chain.
- the multiple of a number is either greater than or equal to the number itself.
For example,12 × 1 = 12(12 = 12)
12 × 2 = 24(24 > 12)
- Multiples of an even number are always even because the product of any number with an even number gives another even number.
EXAMPLES
Example 1: Are all multiples of 12 multiples of 4 also?
Solution: We know the multiples of 4 are 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40… and so on.
Similarly, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72… and so on are 12’s multiples.
Hence the multiples of 12 are multiples of 4 also.
Note: the same isn’t true in the case of the reverse statement as all multiples of 4 are not the multiple of 12. For example, 16 is a multiple of 4 but it’s not a multiple of 12.
Example 2: Soumya wants to give 2 gifts to each teacher on Teachers Day. Soumya has 12 teachers in total. How many gifts does Soumya need to buy?
Solution: There are 12 teachers. Hence Soumya will buy 12 × 2 = 24 gifts for her teachers.
Example 3: Rita got an order to make 6 bracelets, in each bracelet she uses 12 pearls and 11 crystals. How many pearls and crystals are required to complete the order?
Solution: Rita has an order of 6 bracelets. In each bracelet, there are 12 pearls and 11 crystals.
Hence the total number of pearls = 12 × 6 = 72
And the total number of crystals = 11 × 6 = 66.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do you find the multiples of 12?
To find the multiples, multiply any number by 12. For example, multiplication of 12 by 13 gives 156, where 156 is a multiple of 12.
2. What are the factors and multiples of 12?
12 = 6×2×1,12 = 4×3×1 and 12 =3×2×2×1, hence the factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6.
12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72,84…and so on are the multiples of 12.
3. Are 12’s multiples always even?
Yes, since the multiplication of any number with even numbers results in an even number. 12 is an even number so its multiples are also even.
4. Is 4 a multiple or a factor of 12?
4 is a factor of 12 whereas 12 is a multiple of 4.
